An Introduction to Beating
This is a fun and informative one-day course which has been designed to provide complete beginners with the basic information and ‘hands-on’ skills required to be an effective beater. The day is split into two parts with the morning spent covering some of the important facts that a beater needs to know. You will learn about the history of game shooting, quarry species, how a typical shoot day runs and the role of a beater plus useful tips on clothing, essential kit and safety aspects. After a good lunch you will visit a shoot and find out more about pheasant and partridge releasing. Finally you will tackle a couple of ‘mock’ drives and hopefully get a chance to put some birds over the ‘guns’.
All attendees will receive a Certificate and NOBs will provide help with finding beating on local shoots.
The cost of this course is £75.00 and numbers are limited to a maximum of 20.
First Aid for the Working Gundog
Would you know what to do if your dog collapsed whilst on the shoot or cut itself badly whilst well away from shoot vehicles? Unfortunately accidents do happen and this one-day course has been created to help you deal with a canine emergency. Run by vets experienced with working dogs, the day will include dealing with cuts, lacerations and abrasions, broken bones, shock and collapse. You will practice bandaging techniques and also ‘Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation’ or ‘Mouth to Snout’ using special models. Other areas which will be covered will include stings, snake bites, heatstroke, burns/scalds, eye injuries and sudden vomiting/diarrhoea. All attendees will receive a pocket first aid kit which will provide the basic materials needed before you can get back to base and seek professional assistance from a vet.
The cost of this course which includes lunch, first-aid notes and a pocket first aid kit is £95.00. Numbers are limited to 16 people.
