David Bates Regional Officer for North West and Cumbria the National Organisation of Beaters and Pickers Up
My love of the countryside was kindled form a very early age, growing up in Norfolk with thousands of acres over the back fence I spent many days just wandering the footpaths and bridleways with my father.
Moving away from a rural setting and into towns didn’t stop me, I used to jump on my bike and hurtle off to the nearest open space - quite often in pursuit of rabbits, mostly on farms belong to friend’s parents.
I’m a lot happier when I’m out in the country and I’m eager to share that feeling with others, beating is a great way to help people get their first taste of country sports and the "great outdoors" to coin a phrase. I do what I can to encourage friends and family to come along for a day, and I’m keen to help others get that opportunity as well - which is why I think NOBs is such a great organization.
